		Śląsk to historyczny obszar, którego większość jest położona w Polsce, choć częściowo także w Niemczech i w Czechach.
		Jak można się spodziewać, język jakim posługują się mieszkańcy Śląska, zawiera elementy języków-polskiego, czeskiego i niemieckiego.
		Niektórzy językoznawcy uważają, że gwara śląska stanowi osobny język, a nie dialekt języka polskiego.
		Debata na ten temat ciągle trwa.
		Ważnym elementem gospodarki Śląska jest górnictwo - większość regionu leży na bardzo bogatych złożach rud.
		Jednym z głównych bogactw mineralnych Śląska jest węgiel.
		Śląskie złoża węglowe należą do największych na świecie!
		Poza tym w regionie Dolnego Śląska występują bogate złoża miedzi, a także innych minerałów - złota, ołowiu, cynku, srebra, wapienia, marmuru, bazaltu i innych.
		Innym ważnym elementem gospodarki Śląska jest rolnictwo—uprawa zbóż, kukurydzy, ziemniaków itp.
		W regionie znajdują się również gospodarstwa mleczarskie, które produkują dość znaczne ilości mleka.
		Na Śląsku występują duże obszary leśne, a także rozległe obszary rolne.
		Teren jest głównie płaski, choć wzdłuż południowej granicy znajdują się nieliczne góry i tereny pofałdowane.
		W przeszłości Śląsk stanowił terytorium sporne Polski i Niemiec.
		Po zakończeniu I Wojny Światowej, region wszedł w skład Niemiec, ponieważ jego mieszkańcami byli głównie Niemcy.
		Jednak po zakończeniu II Wojny Światowej powrócił do Polski.
		Wielu Niemców mieszkających tu w tamtym czasie zostało wygnanych, a ich domostwa zostały zajęte przez polskich osadników wygnanych z tych regionów Polski, które po wojnie weszły w skład Związku Radzieckiego.

Zarówno na Śląsku, jak i w całej Polsce, poświęca się dużo uwagi terenom zielonym. Dlatego dziwnym wydaje się fakt, że śląska rzeka – Rawa – jest obecnie bardziej kanałem ściekowym niż rzeką. Jej woda był krystalicznie czysta ostatnio w 1875 roku. Już po upływie kilku lat została bardzo silnie zanieczyszczona przez rozwój przemysłu w regionie. Do roku 1893 wyginęły wszystkie ryby w Rawie. W latach 90-ych XX wieku wśród mieszkańców regionu krążył dowcip o tym, że Rawa zawiera tylko 14 procent wody.

Don't Drink the River Water in Silesia

With so much of Silesia and Poland in general being devoted to green lands, it seems very odd that a river there could be considered nothing but a sewage channel, but that's exactly how the Rawa River in Silesia is currently categorized. The last time it was known to be perfectly clear was in 1875, but in just a few years, it became extremely polluted by all the industry that moved into the region. By 1893, all of the fish in the Rawa River had died out. The locals began to joke in the 1990s that the river was only fourteen percent water.

		As expected, the languages spoken by the people in the area include Polish, Czech, and German.
		Some linguists insist that the local Silesian dialect is its own language rather than a dialect of Polish,
		but the debate on that issue goes on.
		Mining is a big part of the economy in Silesia because much of it contains very rich deposits of mineral ores.
		Coal is one of the major resources found throughout Silesia.
		In fact, Silesia's coal deposits are among the largest in the world.
		There are also some rich deposits of copper in the Lower Silesia area, as well as a number of other minerals, including gold, lead, zinc, silver, limestone, marble, basalt, and others.
		Agriculture is also a big part of Silesia, with farmers there growing grains, corn, potatoes, and other crops.
		There are also some dairy farms there with quite a bit of milk production.
		The land of Silesia is largely wooded, although there is a lot of farmland as well.
		Most of the area is flat, although there are a few mountains and more rugged terrain along the southern border.
		Silesia has been contested through history by Poland and Germany.
		After World War I, the region became part of Germany because the population was so heavily German.
		However, it became part of Poland once again after World War II.
		Many of the Germans who lived there at the time were kicked out of their homes, and Polish settlers who had been kicked out of other parts of Poland by the Soviet Union moved in.
